The banned book project was very interesting to me. We got the opportunity to chose a book that has been banned in schools throughout the country. We had to choose a book that was banned and of our choice, with this book we had to create 5 different journal entries to think about the book and write our comments on it. After all the journal entries we were assigned to create a video about our book talking about why it was banned and how we need this type of books. There's more details about the project here.
1) How challenging was this project for you?
This project was not as complex overall but it had it's challenges. I think the hardest thing of this project would have to be managing the time. I have a busy schedule and it was hard to keep up with the reading. I found that really difficult because it's hard to work on so many things but even though it was hard I was still able to read such an amazing book.
2) What was the easiest part of this project?
I think the easiest part of this project has to be the journal entries. I love writing and it's something that I've improved.
3)How comfortable did you feel while making your film?
I wanted to say so much! It took me a couple tries due to the fact that I kept going over four minutes. At the end I was able to record the video and I was proud. Even though there were lots of positive things that I wanted to say about the book.
4) Did you receive critique and feedback from anyone? If so who/ Was the feedback helpful?
We actually got the opportunity to interact with our classmates and got to write and compare journal entries. We got to share relevant things about our books and our responses to the book we're reading about.
5) Did you provide kind, specific, and helpful feedback in the journal workshops? Were these sessions helpful and/or fun?
I got to give feedback to one of my classmates about the journal entries. I told my mate that it was important to add commentary to the quotes. It's very important to add details and be as specific as possible. These sessions were fun because we got to have very interesting conversations about the books we were reading.
6) Did you actually read the book you chose?
Yes, I did read the book! I am very proud of myself actually reading it even though it was hard to keep up with the reading. I really enjoyed my book because it was so detailed and it was clear. It does not have an specific narrator because the point of view of the book changes on different people's thoughts. It's a coming of age story with loss of innocence and a very strong symbolic message.
7) What grade do you think you deserve?
In my perspective I think that I deserve an A. I did all the required work and completed all given assignments. I read the book and put in effort to all I did. I was very inspired by my classmates as well. My class is a very organized and attentive class which is something I admire and I really wanted to be at their level of effort and work as for that we are all successful and find benefits. English is my second language and seeing all that progress of mine, to the point that I'm being able to read such an advanced book and understand it's meaning is very precious to me and very important. I worked really hard and for that I think I deserve an A.
8)If you could change something about this project, what would it be?
I actually think the project was fine as it was. Maybe have the journal entries be more specific and detailed so we could know who read the book or not. Overall, I think it was just fine and explainable. It had all the information and details we all had to know. It was a very informative and well set up structure and there wasn't a excuse for not knowing what to do. It was a great project because we get the opportunity to read such amazing and great books.
